I grew up with eyebrows that were quite dark and plentiful. A genetic gift from my Scots/Irish ancestors. In fact, as a young woman, I was often embarrassed by them, sort of thinking I looked like Groucho Marx. I waxed, I plucked, I shaved – never quite satisfied with the results.
As I aged, my brows became shaggy, sparse, and uneven. When my hair began to turn gray, my brows followed suit, which made my face seem much less vibrant and youthful. I hadn’t realized just how profoundly the brows affect our faces. They are sort of the frame. Not only do they allow us to show surprise, anger, inquisitiveness, and amusement – they actually help to keep sweat out of our eyes. Who knew?
I’ve been coming to Julie at Skin Essentials for years for facials and brow waxing, but I didn’t realize she also offers brow shading. What is brow shading you ask? Essentially, it’s a brow tattoo that creates a beautiful, natural-looking brow line.
Julie was careful to create a color that looked perfect with my skin tone and hair color. She only had to use a topical anesthetic to numb my brow area, and I have to say, I didn’t feel any pain at all. The procedure only took about an hour and a half.
There was no downtime since my brows looked great immediately after the procedure. I did have to avoid getting the area wet until they had healed a bit, but Julie provided me with some clear plastic shields I could use when showering, so it was easy-peasy. She also advised me that as they healed and the color was absorbed, they would look a bit lighter – which is absolutely what happened.
One of the best parts for me is how easy they are to maintain. About once a week I use my magnifying mirror to pluck any hair growth that is outside of the brow “template”. This is now a part of my beauty routine that takes no time at all.
Am I happy with the results? You bet I am! It’s wonderful having brows that look so good. In fact, I’m so thrilled with the outcome, that I’m now thinking about having Julie do a lip tint too. Yes, that is also a service she provides. If and when I opt to have this done, you can bet I’ll report back to you!
